Miss Tiffany Rose is inducted into the PHBA Hall of Fame

Dear fellow OPEA members,

It is hard to believe that we are already in the middle of February 2008.  This year will be an exciting year for all of us.  There are many exciting things planned for the 2008 show season.

Here is an list of some things to come:

The awards banquet this year will be held Saturday May 3 in the evening at the Spring Show.  We will be having a potluck dinner.  OPEA will provide the meat and chips, please bring a covered dish or dessert!  We will also be having our silent auction and new this year will be a live auction also!  If you have any items that you would like to donate for the auctions please contact Cristin Murphy at cristin@lopeover.com so that she can make the bid sheets for them.

The Spring show will be held in the covered arena this year and we are planning many fun activities.  We will be holding a bake sale for the weekend, so if you like to bake, bring something with you to donate!  Also we will be holding a few cake/treasure walks...the treasure could be anything from jewelry to grooming equipment.  If there is anything you would like to contribute just bring it with you to the show!

Memorial Day Circuit we are adding three money added stakes classes; Hunter Under Saddle, Western Pleasure, and Trail.  These classes will be all age classes and open to any breed.  Check the web site for more information to follow.  If interested in sponsoring a class please contact me at cynthiaacox@aol.com.

We are still looking for class sponsors for the year too.  For $50 sponsor a class for the whole year!  Help us reach our goal of having every class sponsored this year!  If interested please contact Peggy Missel at lmissel@tds.net.

This at least gets us to the World Show.  Keep checking for updates as we get closer to the shows.

Your Show Committee values and wants your ideas!  Please feel free the share your ideas and concerns to any of your Show Committee members throughout the year.  We are here for you and want your experience at the OPEA shows to be the best that we can provide.  To find their contact information just click on the link for the Officers page to the left.

Together we can make this year and years to follow fantastic!
Cynthia Cox
2008 OPEA President

We will be offering Hunter in Hand for the OPEA shows this year. Please check your rulebook for information on the equipment and attire.

Here's what Jordan Miller has to say about this class to the youth: (The class is ONLY offered in Open and Youth.)

Hey OPEA youth,

I just wanted to send this email to tell you about a new class being offered this year at OPEA shows. It is tons of fun. I got to experience it for the first time in Waco, TX. Now, I wan't to tell you early because you have to have some kind of different clothing. The horse is easy, it just uses a English bridle with a straight snaffle bit. You, on the other hand, must wear khaki pants, a conservative color (either) short-sleeve polo shirt or a Oxford button down, tennis shoes, a plain belt (not of western type) and NO hat. The pattern is very simple too. You just walk up to the judges set up in a open postion (all four feet visable by the both judges), the you just walk around 3 cones in a small triangle, then trot the 3 cones. It's really easy. I just wanted to challenge all of you to try the new class. I can talk to some of you at the show too if you have any questions. Thanks!!

Jordan Miller

P.S.
All of these rules are found on pg. 97 of the rulebooks.

A tribute to the great horse "A Predator" has been added to the Profiles page.
